How To Know Your Why
As entrepreneurs, it’s easy to get caught up in the what and the how of our businesses. But if we want to be successful in the long term, we must take a step back and make sure that we know why. In other words, we need to know our purpose—why we’re doing what we’re doing. And believe me, it’s not as easy as it sounds. It cannot be accessible at times. But if you want your business to thrive, you must take the time to figure out your why.
Why is it so important?
Gary Vee says, “if you don’t know your ‘why,’ you’re going to have a hard time finding the ‘how.’” And he’s right. If you don’t clearly understand your purpose, it will be challenging to find the motivation to keep going when things get tough (and they will get tough). But if you know your why—if you have a clear understanding of your purpose—it’s a lot easier to push through the tough times because you know that what you’re doing is essential.
How do you find you are why?
The process of finding you why can be different for everyone. For some people, it’s something they’ve known their entire lives. They always knew they wanted to be an entrepreneur; they just needed to figure out what they wanted to do and how they would do it. But for others, it can be a more complicated process. If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few questions that might help:
- What gets you excited?
- What are you passionate about?
- What makes you feel alive?
- What makes you feel fulfilled?
- What difference do you want to make in the world? Once you have a better understanding of your passions and what makes you tick, you can start to figure out how those things can be translated into a successful business venture. It won’t be easy, but it’ll be worth it in the end.
As entrepreneurs, we need to make sure that we have a clear understanding of our purpose—our why. Only then will we be able to find the motivation to keep going when things get tough. So ask yourself: what gets you excited? What are you passionate about? Once you have a better understanding of those things, figuring out you’re why will be a lot easier. Trust me: it’ll be worth it in the end.
