The Power of Focusing on What You Want

It’s easy to get caught up in feeling bad for people who are going through tough times. Whether it’s a natural disaster, a personal tragedy, or something else entirely, it’s human nature to want to help. But did you know that agonizing over the plight of others can actually be counterproductive? That’s right—the more you focus on the negative, the more you’re adding energy to it. So what can you do instead? Focus on what you want.

The Law of Attraction

You may have heard of the law of attraction before—the idea that like attracts like. What this means is that whatever thoughts and emotions you put out into the world are going to come back to you. So if you’re focused on the negative, that’s what you’re going to attract more of into your life. On the other hand, if you focus on what you want, that’s what you’re going to attract more of as well.

It’s Not Selfish to Focus on What You Want
Some people worry that if they focus on what they want, they’re being selfish. But the truth is, there’s plenty of room in the world for everyone to achieve their goals and dreams. Focusing on what you want doesn’t mean that others can’t have what they want as well. In fact, when you focus on what you want for yourself and for others, you open up the possibility for even more abundance in the world.

How to Focus on What You Want
The first step is to become aware of your thoughts and emotions. Once you’re aware of your thoughts and emotions, you can begin to change them. If you find yourself dwelling on the negative, shift your focus to something positive. For example, if you’re thinking about how someone is facing a difficult situation, shift your focus to how they will overcome it or how they will be helped by others.
It takes practice to change your thoughts and emotions, but it is possible with a little effort and perseverance. When you make a conscious effort to focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want, you’ll be amazed at how much your life begins to change for the better.

The next time you find yourself agonizing over someone else’s plight, remember that by doing so, you’re only adding energy to their problems—and attracting more problems into your own life as well. Instead, take a step back and focus on what you want for yourself and for them. If we all make a conscious effort to focus on abundance instead of scarcity, we can begin create a world full of possibility and hope for everyone involved!
